Trump Gets Mark Green to Unretire

It was only about a week ago that we reported Rep. Mark Green (R-TN) was going to step down.

This was a big void for Republican leadership, as Green currently serves as the Homeland Security Chairman.

Well, Trump made some calls, and now Green has decided that he is going to stick around for another election.

Sticking Around

When Green announced his retirement, it honestly sounded like Trump was part of the problem because of the influence he has flexed with members of Congress in having legislation blocked.

Green had stated that Congress was “broken beyond most means of repair.”

He added, “I have come to realize our fight is not here within Washington, our fight is with Washington.

“As I have done my entire life, I will continue serving this country — but in a new capacity.”

If Trump wins the election, that will not get any better, as there is still a large contingent of never-Trumpers in both chambers, yet, Green has decided to stick around a bit longer after Trump reportedly reached out to him.

On Thursday, Green confirmed that he would not be stepping down, adding, “Since my announcement, I have received countless calls from constituents, colleagues, and President Trump urging me to reconsider.”

Trump then immediately endorsed Green for re-election, posting, “Mark Green has had lots of options because of his political talents, and the great job he has done as a Congressman, but given the fantastic work he’s doing as Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, I hope he runs for Re-Election to the U.S. House of Representatives. If he does, he has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”

Green and Trump have an existing relationship, as Green was Trump’s nominee for Secretary of the Army, but his nomination met resistance because of comments Green had made about transgenders, calling it a “disease.”

Green served in the Army from 1986 to 2006, and he is highly decorated.

His fruit salad includes a Rangers Tab, Combat Medical Badge, and a Bronze Star.

While serving as the special operations flight surgeon, Green took part in Operation Red Dawn, which captured Saddam Hussein.

Green participated in his interrogation, spending about six hours with him. He wrote a book about the operation, “A Night with Saddam.”

At 59, and having only taken office in 2019 for the first time, I have zero issues with this man deciding to stay on board.
