Donald Trump’s wallet is about to take another hit.
Judge Kaplan, who has delivered nothing but bad news for Trump, just did it again.
Kaplan has ruled that Trump can be held liable for comments he made, giving the thumbs up to a second defamation suit by Carroll, reported the Daily Wire.
Just Be Quiet
When Trump lost the first case, the first thing he did was post derogatory comments about Carroll on Truth Social.
As soon as the comments were posted, legal experts warned that he had just opened himself up to another liable case, and Carroll pounced.
Carroll’s attorneys filed a new suit, and Kaplan just ruled in her favor as well as shooting down Trump’s effort to have the first case, which was a $5 million ruling, limited.
In part, Kaplan wrote, “The truth or falsity of Mr. Trump’s 2019 statements therefore depends — like the truth or falsity of his 2022 statement — on whether Ms. Carroll lied about Mr. Trump sexually assaulting her. The jury’s finding that she did not therefore is binding in this case and precludes Mr. Trump from contesting the falsity of his 2019 statements.”
Trump has also taunted Kaplan on Truth Social, writing in July, “The trial was very unfair, with the other side being able to do and present virtually anything they wanted, and our side being largely and wrongfully shut down by an absolutely hostile, biased, and out of control judge.”
Trump attorney Alina Habba responded, “We remain very confident that the Carroll II verdict will be overturned on appeal, which will render this decision moot.
“We also anticipate that the Second Circuit will stay this trial as it considers the meritorious defenses that have been raised by President Trump.”
Trump has to know that every word out of his mouth is now being monitored, so his attorneys would be wise to tell him to just stay off social media and allow these cases to play out. And by all means, when you lose a defamation suit, do not go on Truth Social and talk smack about the plaintiff and the judge.
