Trump forces departure of top FBI officials, agents who worked on his criminal cases

President Donald Trump has removed multiple FBI officials from their positions, according to recent reports.

These officials were reported to be all agents working on the criminal investigation into Trump.

The investigations were allegedly both the Mar-a-Lago investigation into Donald Trump as well as the Jan. 6 investigation into the president.

According to The Hill, numerous officials were escorted out of the Washington Field office.

Democrat Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia is one of the top names on the Senate Intelligence Agency and has now released a statement on the matter.

“It is deeply alarming that the Trump administration appears to be purging dozens of the most experienced agents who are our nation’s first line of defense,” Warner said.

The Hill news also reported that five executive assistant directors in the FBI were all informed they were going to be demoted from their positions within the bureau.

Now, Rep. Jim Himes of Connecticut, a leading Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, has released a statement on the news.

Spoiler alert: he's NOT happy.

“All Americans who support law enforcement and the rule of law should be deeply concerned by reports that Donald Trump is seeking to fire large numbers of FBI agents, ranging from senior officials to agents assigned to cases against him,” Himes said.

“These actions would undermine our ability to protect Americans from national security and criminal threats, and -- just as damaging -- they would undermine the independence of our justice system," he added.

Himes continued, "Pam Bondi and Kash Patel both committed to protecting the Department of Justice and the FBI from politics and weaponization. If these reports are true, it’s clear they misled the Senate."

Kash Patel, Trump's nominee to lead the FBI, also released a statement on the news, saying “I don’t know what’s going on right now over there, but I’m committed to you, Senator, and your colleagues, that I will honor the internal review process of the FBI.”

Do you agree with Himes or Patel on this issue?
