Pair of Trump executive orders slashing federal DEI support reinstated by judge
Donald Trump spent much of his time on the 2024 campaign trail promising to Americans that he was going to Make America Great Again once again. Included in his plans to do that was the idea that federal spending needed to get under control, and frivolous programs created by liberals would be the first on the chopping block.
As a result, not long into his term, Donald Trump signed multiple executive orders taking aim at Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs in this country. His orders were blocked early on, but Trump didn't give up, and his dedication to what he believes in just paid off.
On March 14, an appeals court rescinded an injunction that previously blocked two of Trump's executive orders eliminating federal support for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs, as Fox News reports.
If you're somebody who likes to know what your tax dollars are supporting and doesn't appreciate them being spent on programs that don't work, this is a HUGE win for you.
DEI programs in America simply don't accomplish what liberals say they do.
People like Joe Biden and Kamala Harris who put these programs in place insist that DEI is necessary to give people who deserve it a fair shot in this country.
That sounds great in theory, but it's not really what ends up happening in practice.
Instead of eliminating any problems in the system, DEI programs only add to the problems by emphasizing things like skin color and gender in the hiring process, while lessening the importance of the actual skills required to do the job.
Barack Obama's administration, for example, used a "skewed multiple-choice quiz to prioritize DEI applicants and bar the brightest from air traffic controller jobs," the Daily Mail reports.
According to the article, Barack Obama's administration put in place a test for aspiring air traffic controllers that "required virtually no knowledge of aviation to pass but rewarded candidates who 'need a great deal of time to complete assignments' and 'take chances very often'."
Additionally, "playing three or more sports in high school was rated more valuable than having a stint as an air traffic controller in the military."
Especially in important positions like air traffic controllers, we need to be giving jobs to people who would make the best air traffic controllers, not people who played the most sports in high school.
Luckily, a three-judge panel from the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals agrees with this idea, and recently lifted the block on Donald Trump's executive orders eliminating federal support for DEI programs.
While a pending lawsuit will prevent Trump's executive orders from becoming law just yet, this shows that we're entering a new time period in America where common sense is important once again.
Once Trump's executive orders do take effect, federal agencies will be forced to terminate grants and contracts related to DEI, and federal contractors will be required not to promote DEI.
