Trump DOJ files motion to end prosecution of child sex change whistleblower
President Donald Trump campaigned, among other things, on a promise to eliminate the influence of “woke” ideology on the federal government, and just one week into his term, that pledge is being fulfilled.
As the Daily Caller reports, the Trump Department of Justice (DOJ) this week filed a motion to end the prior administration's prosecution of a physician whistleblower who drew attention to the continuation of sex change procedures and treatments for minors at Texas Children's Hospital.
Origins of underlying case
At the heart of the Trump DOJ's motion was the fact that the Biden Justice Department had initiated charges agaist Dr. Eithan Haim, accusing him of breaching medical privacy laws when he provided journalists with evidence that the controversial procedures had continued despite the hospital having represented that they had ceased.
Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) had taken a particular interest in the case and had urged the new president to bring an end to the case once and for all.
Rather than being prosecuted, Hawley said, Haim “should be thanked,” and he strongly encouraged Trump to call and end to Biden's “malicious prosecution.”
Haim was scheduled for trial in February on charges that he violated the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act by providing journalist Chris Rufo with details of sex change appointments taking place at the aforementioned hospital, and he faced a possible 10 years in prison if convicted.
Upon receiving the DOJ's motion, Judge David Hittner granted it with prejudice, meaning that the matter is well and truly closed for good.
Reactions pour in
After a lengthy -- and expensive -- legal battle the resolution of which remained uncertain, Haim greeted the news of the dismissal with glee, taking to X to write simply, “WE DID IT!!!! WE WON!!!!!!!”
Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy lauded the outcome as well, declaring the successful motion for dismissal “another gtreat move” by the new administration.
Haim's attorney, Marcella Burke, said, “We thank everyone who helped along the way to bring this massive injustice to light, and we are grateful to secure this victory on behalf of our client.
She continued, “The fight against the evils he exposed continues, but this dismissal represents a repudiation of the weaponization of federal law enforcement and the first step in accountability for the misdeeds we have all witnessed in this case.”
Perhaps most poignant of all was the reaction of the doctor's wife, Andrea Haim, who said of their ongoing ordeal, “If you ask either of us, we would do it again in a heartbeat. Because of Eithan, the world is a better place for children, including our daughter. There is no greater gift we can give her than the knowledge that her daddy is a hero.”
