Trump could win New Mexico: poll
It is now appearing as though former President Donald Trump could win New Mexico in the 2024 presidential election.
What makes this so significant is the fact that New Mexico tends to be a reliably blue state.
According to the New York Post, it is internal polling of the Trump campaign that suggests that Trump has a legitimate chance to win New Mexico.
The polling, according to the outlet, has Trump and his 2024 rival - Vice President Kamala Harris - within the poll's margin of error, suggesting that the state is anyone's to win.
The details:
To help put this whole situation into perspective, President Joe Biden, in the 2020 presidential election, won the state of New Mexico by a margin of about 10 percentage points.
Now, however, internal polling shows that Trump is within a few percentage points of Harris.
The big question, of course, is what has changed. The answer is a lot - considering that the country has just been through four years of the Biden-Harris administration. The Post's sources, however, suggest that there is another big reason why New Mexico has shifted toward Trump.
The answer is Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The independent presidential candidate has suspended his campaign and has joined forced with Trump, hoping to give Trump the edge that he needs to defeat Harris in the 2024 presidential election. And, it appears that this is what is happening, at least in New Mexico.
The Post reports:
RFK Jr. — who was polling at 8% in New Mexico before throwing his support behind Trump in August — has moved some of his supporters to the right, which has helped put the state in play, sources add. Kennedy, who now promotes the slogan “a vote for Trump is a vote for Kennedy” on his campaign materials, has also ramped up his ad spend in the state over the last few weeks.
Trump seizes the opportunity
Trump and his campaign team clearly believe that he has a good chance to win a number of states that typically go to Republicans. This is why we have seen Trump doing such much campaigning in states that Republicans ordinarily would not waster their time on.
For this reason, it is no surprise that Trump is now planning to hold a campaign event in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The Albuquerque Journal reports:
Former President Donald Trump will visit Albuquerque in the final days of this year’s general election cycle, thrusting New Mexico into the national political spotlight and possibly bolstering Republican candidates in hotly contested state and local races.
The visit, according to the outlet, is scheduled to take place this Thursday.
Further details, though, have yet to be released.
