Trump continues to push purchase of Greenland during joint address to Congress
When Donald Trump was on the campaign trail, he was pushing the purchase of Greenland.
The idea was met with mixed reviews, with Trump claiming that we needed Greenland for national security.
During his address to a joint session of Congress, he continued to push that narrative, making it clear he has not given up on this quest.
We Need Greenland
To this point, Greenland officials have given no signal they want anything to do with a possible US purchase of their country.
While there are surely citizens there who would love to see it, from the reports I have seen, the overall temperature on this is tepid, at best.
Yet, Trump still says he wants it to happen, telling Congress and the American people, "And I also have a message tonight for the incredible people of Greenland. We strongly support your right to determine your own future, and if you choose, we welcome you into the United States of America.”
Trump then did something he did on the campaign trail here… overpromise.
Trump stated, "We will keep you safe. We will make you rich. And together we will take Greenland to heights like you have never thought possible before.”
To me, that is just a ridiculous statement to make because he has no way of delivering on it, and he is already paying a price for having overpromised on the campaign trial during the presidential election.
Trump promised that he would be able to lower grocery prices on day one, but I pushed back on that time, knowing the situation with domestic egg suppliers and how long it would take for new policies to impact prices.
I wrote several reports on this, stating at the time that it would take between three and six months, at least, before anything took effect that would help lower grocery prices, especially since 100 million chickens were euthanized during the Biden administration due to bird flu concerns.
Before Trump’s address, dozens of Democrats did a scripted call out of Trump on this very issue, virtually word-for-word attacking Trump on the prices of groceries, including the eggs that are getting priced into oblivion over the shortage.
My advice to Trump would be to forget about taking on Greenland and adding even more to our debt and instead focus on accomplishing what he said he would do.
Right now, regardless of his other accomplishments, the GOP will fail in 2026 and 2028 if Trump cannot get the economy turned around before people head to the polls in mid-term election and the 2028 presidential election.
As I have stated many times, Trump has no room for error here, so he had better get cracking on the issues that matter most to the American people. I promise you that Greenland is not even in the top 10 on that list.
