Trump rounds out Cabinet picks at lightning-fast pace
The weeks following Donald Trump's decisive Nov. 5 victory have seen a whirlwind of activity emerging from his Mar-a-Lago center of operations, leaving little doubt about the determined trajectory of the upcoming administration.
Notably, as of this weekend, Trump has already selected the individuals he hopes will fill the top 15 spots in his Cabinet, assembling a group comprised of predictable choices and unorthodox candidates alike, as Fox News reports.
Cabinet takes shape
Perhaps having learned hard lessons from his first term in office, Trump has built a prospective Cabinet of individuals he has deemed appropriately committed to his MAGA agenda, despite what may be their outwardly unconventional nature.
Trump's pick for Health and Human Service chief, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., is a former Democrat long associated with environmentalist causes most would not view as intuitively aligned with Republican interests, though his Make America Healthy Again platform has found a receptive champion in the president-elect.
Tapping former George Soros adviser Scott Bessent to lead the Treasury Department is another seemingly surprise choice on the part of Trump, but he has become a strong advocate for lower taxation, fiscal restraint, deregulation, and tariffs as a key trade strategy.
Trump has also sparked much discussion and debate with his choice of former Fox News personality Pete Hegseth to lead the Pentagon, a move that has produced skepticism among some due to the military veteran's lack of experience inside the federal bureaucracy -- though that is precisely what may appeal to the president-elect.
None of this is to say that Trump has only opted for controversial or unusual picks for his Cabinet, as he has also chosen the likes of Sen. Marco Rubio to serve as secretary of State and former Florida AG Pam Bondi to serve as U.S. Attorney General, both individuals with extensive experience in the realms they have been asked to lead.
Aggressive approach to picks
As USA Today notes, Trump has set about completing his Cabinet picks faster than just about any other president-elect in recent history, and some believe there is a clear message to be found in that fact.
Trump insiders suggest that the pace is indicative of the prospect of massive upheaval at federal agencies, something promised on the campaign trail and an agenda the incoming commander in chief intends to fulfill.
Those close to the president-elect believe that Trump “has a clear vision of what he wants now – those with an appetite for blowing up the status quo.”
Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer said, “The agenda is clear, business as usual is over.”
While there may be some difficult confirmation battles ahead for some of Trump's picks, the push for real transformation is undeniably underway.
