Trump: Biden must undergo drug test ahead of presidential debates

President Joe Biden recently signaled his willingness to debate former President Donald Trump ahead of the 2024 election, provided his detailed list of demands were met.

However, Trump has lobbed a demand of his own, namely, that Biden undergo a drug test prior to their matchups, referencing suspicions about the president's unusually energetic appearance at his State of the Union address earlier this year, as the New York Post reports.

Trump lets loose

On Friday, remarking on his readiness to engage on stage with his rival for the Oval Office, Trump made his feelings known about Biden's possible use of performance-enhancing drugs.

Suggesting that Biden was “high as a kite,” when he addressed a joint session of Congress and the nation months ago, Trump does not want to take any chances in their upcoming meetings.

“I just want to debate this guy, but you know -- and I'm gonna demand a drug test too, by the way,” the former president told those in attendance at a Republican Party event in Minnesota.

Explaining his rationale, Trump went on, “I am. No, I really am. I don't want him coming in like the State of the Union. He was high as a kite. We're going to demand a drug test.”

Not just Trump

It was not only the former president who expressed incredulity about Biden's uncharacteristically alert and forceful presentation during his State of the Union address, with Rep. Greg Murphy recently suggesting that some pharmaceutical assistance may have been at work, as The Hill notes.

The North Carolina Republican serves as the co-chair of the GOP Doctors Caucus, and he told Maria Bartiromo of Fox News that he does not believe Biden's speech was delivered while he was in a chemically unaltered state.

“I was in the State of the Union address and Joe Biden must have been jacked up on something that day. I absolutely believe that from a medical viewpoint and actually have a little bit of good knowledge that happened,” Murphy declared.

As supporting evidence for his claim, the lawmaker added, “He can't stand, and he can't stand under the lights for that long, and I don't think he can keep a concept in his brain that long.”

When pressed by Bartiromo for clarification, Murphy did not back down.

“I believe they gave him something to help him sustain the lights and sustain the vigor that he had. That's not, that was not Joe Biden,” Murphy stated, but whether there will be any way to know whether the president again avails himself of whatever assistance the doctor believes he did for the State of the Union address, only time will tell.
