Trump Backs Romney Replacement for Utah Senate Seat

Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) has already announced that he will not be running for re-election, saying that the time has come to move on.

Donald Trump has finally endorsed someone in that race, throwing his support behind Trent Staggs.

Of course, Trump could not resist throwing a shot at Romney in the process.

Trump Has His Guy

Staggs does have a decent profile, having served as mayor as well as the local city council.

In endorsing Staggs, Trump stated, “Trent Staggs is 100% MAGA, and is running to fill The Mitt Romney, a Total Loser, Seat as the next Senator from the Great State of Utah!

“A Highly Successful Entrepreneur, who has served brilliantly as Mayor of Riverton for the past six years.”

Trump added, “Trent knows how to Create Jobs, Stop Inflation, Grow the Economy, and Secure the Border.

“As your next Senator, Trent will help us Unleash American Energy, Support our Military/Vets, and Protect our always under siege Second Amendment. Trent Staggs has my Complete and Total Endorsement – He will be a GREAT Senator, and never let you down!”

Former Trump Acting Director of National Intelligence, Ric Grenell, has also endorsed Staggs for the seat.

Primary voting for Utah is not held until late June, but this is going to be a very crowded field to get the GOP nod for the seat.

In polling thus far, John Curtis appears to be the frontrunner, with Brent Hatch and Brad Wilson in second depending upon the poll.

In the most recent poll, the April Noble Predictive Insights poll, Staggs is a distant fourth place, polling at only 5% behind Curtis (27), Hatch (11), and Wilson (10).

Now that Staggs has Trump’s support, we will have to see if that impacts the polls enough to make Staggs a true threat in this race.
