Trump Attorneys Motion to Delay Bragg Trial Under Immunity Decision Announced

Donald Trump is at it again.

Trump’s attorneys just filed a motion to try to derail Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s case against Trump, which is slated to begin on March 25.

Trump wants the case delayed until after the Supreme Court rules on his presidential immunity claim.

The Waiting Game

With March 25 fast approaching, this is the one case that Trump has not been able to derail thus far, but he is going to give it a try.

The motion requesting the trial be halted until the immunity ruling takes place stated, "The Court should adjourn the trial pending Supreme Court review of the scope of the presidential immunity doctrine in Trump v. United States, which is scheduled to be argued before the Supreme Court on April 25, 2024.”

The motion continued, adding that it should also be adjourned "following an evidentiary hearing outside the presence of the jury, preclude evidence of President Trump’s official acts at trial based on presidential immunity."

Trump has already filed a motion to dismiss the case, but Judge Merchan denied it.

Trump has been accused of doctoring his books to cover up hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels as well as Playboy model Karen McDougal.

The Supreme Court recently agreed to take Trump’s case on presidential immunity, but the case will not be heard before the court until late April, with a ruling likely not coming until June.

The question then becomes whether this particular case will even be impacted by the presidential immunity claim if Trump wins, which is very iffy, at best.

I think it might be a stretch to connect the two, but there is nothing wrong with trying.

Merchan had not been very friendly to Trump thus far, so while I do not expect Merchan to agree to stall the trial, I am sure that Trump will then appeal that decision, which will ultimately serve the same purpose and delay the trial.

As I have noted in previous reports, any guilty verdict against Trump will be decimating, as he loses significant support, likely enough to cost him the election in 2024.
