Trump Attorneys File to Have Hush-money Gag Order Removed

Now that the hush-money case has concluded, one would think that Judge Merchan would have already lifted the gag order on Donald Trump.

However, since sentencing is not until July, Merchan has apparently decided to leave it in place until he is done with Trump completely.

With the first presidential debate coming up, Trump’s attorneys are hoping to push that schedule up considerably.

Must Be Removed

The case's sentencing is not until early July, and it appears that Merchan would prefer the gag order to remain in place until then.

While that order is in place, the people the gag order protects from Trump have been firing off all kinds of attacks in the media.

Trump would love to respond to them, but they are far from his biggest problem on this front.

Donald Trump has a debate coming up with Joe Biden later this month, and you know Joe Biden is going to be calling him a “convicted felon” every chance he gets.

However, since Trump has a gag order in place, he will be limited in how he can respond, so Trump’s attorneys are hoping to have the gag order removed, at least for the debate itself.

Trump Attorney Todd Blanche stated, “It’s a little bit of the theater of the absurd at this point, right? Michael Cohen is no longer a witness in this trial.

“The trial is over. The same thing with all the other witnesses. So, we’ll see.

“I don’t mean that in any way as being disrespectful of the judge and the process. I just want to be careful and understand when it no longer applies.”

After spending more than $20,000 in fines on gag orders already, Trump has apparently learned his lesson, continuing to keep his comments tempered due to the gag order.

As Blanche stated, at this point, it really should not matter, but if Merchan would prefer to keep the gag order in place until sentencing is over, the least he can do is lift the gag order for the debate so Trump can respond to attacks.
