Ron DeSantis is about to take a big blow to his presidential campaign.
When DeSantis first announced, he had overwhelming support from state officials.
According to a Trump source, they have been working to flip them ever since, and a source close to Trump said they are expecting the flipped endorsements to be announced over the next week.
The Trump source told NBC News, “It’s coming. Exact number not yet said, but it will be close to 10.”
Now, DeSantis has close to 100 endorsements, so in the overall scheme of things, this is not all that big of a deal.
Publicly, however, you know Trump is going to get some serious mileage out of this.
The DeSantis team is already going into defense, stating, “Ron DeSantis has more endorsements from state legislators than the former president in Iowa (41), New Hampshire (62), and South Carolina (16). He also has the support of almost all Florida elected officials because he worked with them to deliver historic results for the conservative movement.
“The governor will win his home state because Floridians want to see a fighter who will bring the same type of results-oriented leadership to Washington that he has provided in the Sunshine State.”
Trump has a big event planned at Mar-a-Lago the day after the third Republican debate. This was not an accident.
If you noticed, Trump has scheduled something after each debate to steal any possible momentum that DeSantis will get from the debate.
Even if DeSantis knocks it out of the park, the news cycle will be no more than 48 hours because, by November 10, everyone will be talking about Trump’s event at Mar-a-Lago and the local endorsements that Trump stole from DeSantis.
Trump, for whatever reason, wants to destroy this man.
I still believe the best hope that DeSantis has of getting back into this race would be to partner up with Haley, but her recent comments against DeSantis tell me that will not happen.
If all things remain the same, Trump should have a walk into the nomination.
