Hern Tries to Buy Votes with Cheeseburgers

Rep. Kevin Hern (R-OK) was treating the Speaker’s race like you would a regular election.

Hern revived his old nickname, “McCongressman” after handing out a “Dear Colleague” letter with a bag that had two cheeseburgers in it.

Hern earned the nickname because he previously owned 18 McDonald’s franchises.

McCongressman

Hern was one of the finalists in the vote for GOP House Speaker nominee.

With Emmer the clear favorite, Hern was hoping to make headway with this cheeseburger bribe, while also writing, “My 35 years of experience as a business leader makes me uniquely qualified to lead a diverse Republican Conference and ensure we break the pattern of legislating in a perpetual state of crisis.

“Our Conference is at a crossroads. We can choose business as usual, or we can choose a speaker who didn’t come to Washington to be something, but to do something.”

The bribe did not work, and while Hern was among the finalists, Emmer took the initial vote.

However, he will get another chance because Emmer’s nomination lasted about as long as Rep. Scalise's (R-LA).

On Tuesday, Trump ripped Emmer on Truth Social, ensuring that MAGA supporters in Congress would not back the nomination.

Trump posted, "I have many wonderful friends wanting to be Speaker of the House, and some are truly great Warriors.

"RINO Tom Emmer, who I do not know well, is not one of them. He never respected the Power of a Trump Endorsement, or the breadth and scope of MAGA—MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"

Trump also stated, "Voting for a Globalist RINO like Tom Emmer would be a tragic mistake!"

Trump made it clear he was teaching GOP members a lesson that if they did not support him, he would work against them.

He stated "He is totally out-of-touch with Republican Voters.

"I believe he has now learned his lesson, because he is saying that he is Pro-Trump all the way, but who can ever be sure? Has he only changed because that’s what it takes to win?"

Emmer would not endorse Trump because he did not want to impact the primary race, so he was on record stating that he would get behind whoever won the GOP nomination for the presidential race.

This is only going to make the anti-Trump contingent in Congress dig in deeper, so I just don’t know how we get a Speaker elected at this point.
