Top Prosecutor in New York Leaving Office
Now that Trump is in office, people are starting to run for the hills.
Yet another resignation has been announced by someone who would likely be out of work when Trump took office anyway.
The latest to cut and run is U.S. Attorney Damian Williams.
I Am Out of Here
Williams is one of the top federal prosecutors assigned to the famed U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York.
This office, which was already famous, was made more so by the TV show “Billions.”
Williams was appointed during the Biden administration, and we all know Donald Trump is going to have big problems with prosecutors in New York.
Williams clearly sees the writing on the wall, tendering his resignation just before midnight on December 13.
He stated, “Today is a bittersweet day for me, as I announce my resignation as United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. It is bitter in the sense that I am leaving my dream job, leading an institution I love that is filled with the finest public servants in the world.
“It is sweet in that I am confident I am leaving at a time when the Office is functioning at an incredibly high level — upholding and exceeding its already high standard of excellence, integrity, and independence.”
Now, I really need to make sure people understand how all this works.
When administrations change, especially when they are changing parties, the incoming president and his AG will want their own team in place.
It is common for these offices to be cleaned out and new people appointed.
I bring this up because when it happens this time, Democrats are going to claim Trump is taking revenge on prosecutors who went after him.
Rest assured, however, that if you look at past administrations, this is business as usual.
But again, I would bet dollars to donuts that this will be portrayed as Trump taking revenge on Democrats.
