Top Dem Senator Targeted by NRA with Massive Ad Buy
When Republicans lost the Senate, the party was flabbergasted, as they expected to increase their majority.
Dems have since managed to hold onto it, but with a Republican potentially going back into the White House, controlling the Senate is even more important for possible presidential appointments and the judiciary.
One Senator that is being targeted is Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH), and the timing could not be better.
Taking Back the Senate
Republicans expected to win Arizona, but thanks to Kari Lake, that is unlikely.
Simply put, Lake is the wrong candidate for a moderate state. The GOP and Trump should have learned that lesson during the governor’s race, when she lost to a candidate who did not come out of her basement.
Now, they are going to lose again, but it comes as no surprise to me, who has been calling for the party to find someone more moderate from the moment that Lake announced her candidacy.
That means the GOP needs to find a seat to replace Arizona, and that comes in the form of Ohio.
Brown is currently ahead in the race by about four points, but his Republican opponent, Bernie Moreno, another Trump-backed candidate, has made up ground recently.
The National Rifle Association (NRA) clearly sees that Trump has a considerable lead in Ohio, and is hoping to put Moreno over that hill he is climbing with a big ad buy to attack Brown.
The ad says simply, “Sen. Brown has failed us.” It calls on voters to “Vote like your life depends on it.”
NRA-PVF Chair Randy Kozuch explained, "This November, gun owners must act to preserve their rights.
"Soft-on-crime politicians like Sherrod Brown have made everyday life more dangerous for American communities but failed to protect gun owners and their right to defend themselves."
With Trump struggling to beat Harris in polling in Arizona, while dominating in Ohio, I think the RNC is going to have to make the decision to cut ties with Lake and stop flushing money and double down on Moreno in Ohio.
I know that will not be a popular call with MAGA Republicans, but I am being a realist here.
Lake should have never been put up as a candidate after her failed gubernatorial campaign.
This is a moderate state and you need moderate conservatives if you want to win. She has no chance, and any money spent backing her from this point is a waste of money.
Let’s get the effort behind Moreno, who at least has a chance of winning his seat if Trump can head over there and start to give him a much-needed boost.
