Tim Walz Called Out by Teamsters Boss After Sleight on Union Members

Governor Tim Walz made a big mistake after being snubbed by the unions for an endorsement in the presidential race.

Rather than offering an olive branch, Walz insulted membership and more or less called leadership cowards.

Well, leadership just fired back, and it is not good for Walz.

Big Mistake

I am not sure who screws up more when they open their mouth… Walz or Harris.

To that point, when Walz was recently asked why he thought two major unions snubbed the campaign, he responded, "It's a couple. They have tough politics inside those. These are folks that are directly responsible to their members. And look, some of their members split off. The bottom line is, how can you be with a guy who wants to bust the unions, not there to make collective bargaining the right, not to make health care there?

"Some of those leaders did not show the courage they needed to. The vast majority of union leaders showed the courage in backing us.”

Teamsters President Sean O’Brien, one of the leaders of the two union organizations that did not support the Harris-Walz ticket, took exception.

He responded, “That’s kind of a knucklehead statement — I show courage every day. It’s disrespectful to our members and the process.

“He’s talking like an educator, like he’s in a classroom teaching a lesson.

“The lesson that needs to be taught is that our members don’t need to be educated — our members are educated. That’s the problem with the Democratic Party right now, is they are looking down on our members.”

I am not sure how O’Brien shows courage every day, but the move to not endorse Harris was bold but hardly courageous.

The fact is that Teamsters membership overwhelmingly supported Trump in two different surveys, but O’Brien did not want to completely upset Democrats, so he sat out the election.

The Fireman’s Union actually respected the wishes of its membership by sitting out the election, also via a membership survey.

Getting back to Walz's statement, trust me, union members are not going to take that kindly. When you consider Harris needs the Blue Wall states to win, states packed with union members, Walz may have just delivered another major blow to Harris’ chance of moving into the White House.
