Tim Waltz has turned Minnesota into an abortion sanctuary: report

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) has turned his state into an abortion sanctuary.

This is according to a new report from the Daily Caller, which is based on documents that were just released by Minnesota's Department of Health.

The report comes after Vice President Kamala Harris and Walz lost in the 2024 presidential election to President-Elect Donald Trump and Vice President-Elect J.D. Vance.

There was much talk on the campaign trail about the extreme policies that Walz has pursued while acting as the governor of Minnesota. This would fall into that category.

Background

According to the Daily Caller's report, people are now flocking to Minnesota to have abortions.

Per the outlet:

Minnesota’s Department of Health released its annual abortion report on Tuesday revealing that abortions in the state skyrocketed in 2023, just one year after the Supreme Court struck down the long-standing ruling that guaranteed access to abortion nationwide and gave states the right to create laws around the procedure.

The outlet, of course, is referring to the court's Dobb's decision, which overruled Roe v. Wade, returning the controversial issue of whether abortions ought to be legal to the people and their state legislatures.

Walz was one of those Democrats who, immediately after the court released the decision, took action to protect so-called abortion rights.

The Washington Examiner has reported:

After winning reelection for governor in 2022, Walz and the newly-elected Democratic legislature in January 2023 rushed through the Protect Reproductive Options Act, which codified the “fundamental right to reproductive freedom” and essentially prohibited any restrictions on abortion, including gestational age limits.

Minnesota is now an "abortion resort"

The legislation, apparently, has had its intended effect, as the Minnesota Department of Health's recently-released data.

Per the Daily Caller:

Individuals from neighboring states seeking abortions increased from 1,986 in 2022 to 2,976 in 2023, an increase of nearly 1,000, according to the state’s data. Total abortions in the state increased by about 15%, reaching 14,124 in 2023 compared to 12,193 in 2022.

That is a massive increase.

The outlet continues:

At least 221 abortions in the state occurred after week 21 of pregnancy, though an additional 208 abortions did not report the age of the unborn baby, according to the report. Most of the nonresidents came from the neighboring states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, and Wisconsin, the report stated. Some traveled from Missouri, Nebraska and Texas.

This is because many of these states have passed laws restricting abortion access. The issue has quickly divided the country, with states taking contrary positions on the issue.
