It would appear as though America's top officials are finally making their move against what many Americans feel is the biggest threat facing our country right now:
TikTok is a video-sharing app owned by the Chinese company ByteDance.
Not only does ByteDance have very suspicious ties to the Chinese government, they have already admitted to mishandling Americans' data on multiple occasions. Not only that, but the company is weaponizing the app here in America.
Yes, it's being used as a tool to farm Americans data... but did you know that we're not even seeing the "real" version of the app? That version is what is distributed in China, and shows videos that encourage young Chinese people to appreciate things like math, science, and learning.
But ByteDance didn't send that version of the app to America. Instead, they sent a modified version purposely designed to display much more low-brow and damaging content to the young people of America.
While the Chinese youth got educational videos, our young people are being exposed to violence, porn, and other damaging types of videos.
"Today, the threat that everyone is talking about is TikTok, and how it could enable surveillance by the Chinese Communist Party, or facilitate the spread of malign influence campaigns in the U.S.," Senator Mark Warner, a Democrat from Virginia. "We need a comprehensive, risk-based approach that proactively tackles sources of potentially dangerous technology before they gain a foothold in America, so we aren’t playing Whac-A-Mole and scrambling to catch up once they’re already ubiquitous."
That's why on March 7 a bipartisan group of senators introduced a bill that would give Joe Biden's government "more authority to crack down on technology from foreign adversaries that poses a threat to national security, including TikTok."
While TikTok isn't the only technology being referred to in this bill, it's probably the most important right now.
Chinese secret weapon may soon be a thing of the past. That's something I NEVER thought I'd see in Joe Biden's America.
