Thune Casts Doubt on Trump Deportation Plan

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.), who was reportedly backed by Trump behind closed doors, is now throwing shade on Trump’s agenda regarding immigration.

Thune is now openly stating that Trump’s massive deportation plan is not realistic.

And guess what… he is right, just as I have been writing throughout this election cycle.

Not Realistic

During the election, Trump promised to have the “largest mass deportation program” in this country’s history.

So, if we go back and look at modern times, the largest deportation that took place in recent history was in 2012 and 2013 under Barack Obama, where 418,000 and 438,000 were deported, respectively.

If we go back further in history, the largest deportation program in history took place in 1955, when roughly 1.3 million people were swept up and deported when President Eisenhower was in office.

So, if Trump wants to deport everyone who came in under the Biden administration, he would somehow have to double that total for four consecutive years.

When you consider the legal hurdles he will face, there is no way that is going to happen.

To that point, Senator Thune stated, "There are a bunch of folks, over a million, million point four, I think, on the current administration's list of people that need to be deported.

“So start with that, and then we'll go from there and figure it out.

“But I think that the administration, when they take office, these are decisions, obviously, they're going to have to make, and we want to work with them to ensure that we have a safe and secure southern border where people don't have the incentive structure they have today, which is essentially come to this country, and we will waive you in.

"People have to understand that we are a nation of immigrants, but we are, first and foremost, a nation of laws, and you've got to follow the law."

My guess is that Homan will target criminals first, and then he will see where he can legally go after that.

Remember, we have all these sanctuary cities protecting a lot of these illegals, and it is not going to be easy to round them up and ship them back over the border.

To add insult to injury, Donald Trump is now saying that he will entertain amnesty for DACA recipients, which keeps millions of those migrants in this country.

So, here is my prediction… Trump will offer a plan to provide amnesty for all DACA recipients to end the program, giving amnesty and a path to citizenship for roughly 530,000 migrants, and this will likely include their immediate family, so that number is probably multiplied by three of four.

Trump will be able to deport most of the criminal illegals, but this will take years to accomplish.

I will ballpark it that by the time Trump’s term ends, maybe three million people will have been deported, and I think that is a very high number.

Realistically, it will probably be about two million.

So, don’t get mad at Thune, or start calling me a RINO, because that is just the reality of the situation.

Trump overpromised on this, as he did with a lot of things, which is why I keep telling people to temper their expectations because a lot of what Trump promised simply cannot be done with the numbers the GOP has in Congress.
