Three protesters are sentenced as Biden DOJ pursues pro-life activists
President Joe Biden's Justice Department has sentenced three more pro-life protesters for violations of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, Breitbart reported. Former President Donald has promised to review their cases if he retakes the White House in November.
Paul Place, 24, Eva Zastrow, 24, and James Zastrow, 25, were sentenced in a federal court Tuesday to three years of probation and 90 days of home detention. The three were convicted in April along with fellow protestor Eva Edl, 87, who survived a communist concentration camp.
They were among 11 people who were convicted following a demonstration at a Tennessee abortion mill. On March 5, 2021, several pro-life protestors showed up at the Carafem Health Center Clinic to "rescue" the women going into the clinic to abort their babies.
The protesters prayed, sang hymns, and urged the mothers not to abort their babies. Biden's Justice Department called this demonstration a "blockade" and announced charges in October 2022.
Political Prosecutions
Many changes have occurred since the pro-life activists staged their demonstration. Tennessee has outlawed abortion in all but a handful of exceptions, and the Dobbs decision overturned the Supreme Court's abortion fiat in 2022.
FBI Director Christopher Wray noted that since that landmark decision, 70% of violence surrounding abortion rights has been against pro-life organizations. Still, the Justice Department continues to charge pro-lifers with FACE Act violations.
The FACE Act was initially signed into law in 1994 as a protective measure against "threats of force, obstruction and property damage intended to interfere with reproductive health care services," including at churches and other pro-life groups. Now, 97% of violations are charged against pro-life groups despite the uptick in pro-abortion violence.
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) has been one of the outspoken critics of this practice and initiated an appeal over the disparity in how it's applied. "At least 55 of those cases were prosecuted during the Biden administration, only five of which involved attacks on pregnancy resource centers," Roy said as he introduced the bill in Sept. 2023.
"In less than four years, Biden’s DOJ has accounted for over a quarter of all FACE prosecutions and approximately 24% of cases targeting pro-life activists, the data demonstrates," Roy added. The Texas Republican could soon have a strong ally in the White House.
Trump's Pledge
Trump, the 2024 GOP presidential nominee, has promised to rectify the injustices of the Biden DOJ on his first day back in office. Speaking to the Faith and Freedom Coalition, the former president said he would help people like the 75-year-old Catholic protester Paulette Harlow, who was jailed under the FACE Act.
"Paulette is one of many peaceful pro-lifers who Joe Biden has rounded up, sometimes with SWAT teams, and thrown them in jail. Many people are in jail over this. … We’re going to get that taken care of immediately — [on the] first day," Trump pledged.
"But let's call these Brave Americans what they really are -- it's persecuted Christians. That's what they are," Trump added.
The Biden administration has used the power of the justice system against faithful Christians who want to protect human life. It's unfair and un-American, and they deserve to be voted out of power because of it.
