Republican National Committee announces venue and criteria for the fourth Republican presidential debate

The Republican National Committee (RNC) has revealed not only the date and place of the fourth Republican presidential debate but also the qualifications that each candidate must fulfill in order to be eligible to participate.

The (RNC) announced in a press statement on Friday that the debate would take place on Wednesday, Dec. 6, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, but did not designate a location for the event, as Fox News reported.

Former President Donald Trump has yet to participate in a Republican debate, despite, or possibly because of, his status as the firm Republican front-runner for the upcoming 2024 general election.

Candidate Requirements

According to the release, candidates will need to be polling "at least 6%" in two nationwide polls, or "6%" in one national poll and "6%" in one early state poll from two separate "carve out" states.

Those states are listed as Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, or South Carolina.

The polls must be ones that are recognized by the Republican National Committee.

Polling must have been conducted by Sept. 15 and must have been completed no later than forty-eight hours before the debate in order to satisfy the criterion.

In addition, candidates must have received contributions from at least 80,000 individual donors to their campaigns.

This in addition to receiving contributions from at least 200 individual donors in each state and/or territory from a total of at least 20 states and/or territories.

More Contentious Requirements

Potential participants are also required to have signed the candidate pledge, which includes a promise not to participate in any debate that the RNC does not sanction and to back whoever the RNC chooses as the nominee for the Republican party, something several Republican candidates have shied away from.

The announcement comes just a few days before the third Republican presidential debate, which will be organized by NBC News, Salem Radio Network, the Republican Jewish Coalition, and Rumble.

The debate will take place in Miami, Florida, at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County.
