Well, Donald Trump just got one of the most powerful governors in the country to fall in line behind his campaign.
This weekend, while Trump was campaigning in Texas, Governor Abbott announced that he would be throwing his support behind Trump.
With Trump having endorsed Abbott very early in his last race, this was not exactly a surprise, but it adds another big name behind the campaign of Trump.
Texas is Trump Country
Donald Trump did not win the 2016 primary race in Texas, losing to Senator Cruz (R-TX) 43.8-26.37%.
However, in the general election, Trump won Texas by nine points in 2016, and by 4.6 points in 2020.
That is a pretty big slide, but Trump is now beating Biden by more than five points in the latest polling.
Trump has the overwhelming support of Republican voters in the primary race, but he is driving a wedge between himself and DeSantis supporters, and he will need all of them if he is going to take Texas in a general election.
I bring this up because after Abbott endorsed Trump, there were a lot of conservative Texans spitting venom in Abbott’s direction.
Abbott posted his endorsement on X…
Today, I am proud to endorse Donald J. Trump for President.
Now more than ever, America needs a President who will secure the border and prioritize national security.

Now, if you click on that post and start looking at the reactions, they are about 10:1 negative, at least, which has to be concerning for the Trump campaign if he wants to actually win the general election.
There is still considerable time before we all start heading to the polling stations to cast our vote, so things may change before then, but the sand is clearly running out of the hourglass.
If DeSantis cannot get the rest of the candidates to consolidate around him, this race will be over after Super Tuesday.
Then Trump will have to do something to win DeSantis voters back or the 2024 election is going to be a nailbiter for sure.
