Ashok Elluswamy is Tesla's director of autopilot software. He's also one of the most sought-after men in America right now after making shocking claims that could destroy his very own company.
Ashok is claiming that Tesla faked what its cars are capable of.
One of the things that got the world most excited about this company, Tesla, was a 2016 video "that was supposed to demonstrate the automaker’s self-driving capabilities."
In the clip, which was published in a 2016 blog post titled "Full Self-Driving Hardware on All Teslas," depicts "a Tesla car pulling out of a driveway, stopping at stop signs and traffic lights, driving on a highway, transporting a passenger to an office complex, and then parallel-parking itself."
The world went wild with the fantasy of never having to drive your own car or worry about little things like safety while behind the wheel ever again.
A driver is pictured in the video with his hands just below the steering wheel, coupled with a caption saying "The person in the driver’s seat is only there for legal reasons. He is not doing anything. The car is driving itself."
Musk himself directly referenced the video, saying on Twitter that "Tesla drives itself (no human input at all)."
But Elluswamy says the video was nothing but a scam:
The car was following a predetermined path in the video, and drivers occasionally took over during test runs.
Ashok even claimed that during a demonstration saying the Model X could park itself, the car crashed itself in a parking lot.
