Here is what we know so far:
The police department has been updating the public on the situation through its X account.
The first message was posted on Wednesday at about 1:00 p.m. It read:
BREAKING: A shooting incident is under investigation at Antioch High School. Three people have been wounded, including the suspect, who shot himself. Reunification site for parents is 3754 M'boro Pk. Buses will be taking students there.
The next update came about two hours later. That is when the department provided more information about those individuals involved in the shooting.
It wrote:
What we know at this point: A 17-year-old male student fired multiple shots in the cafeteria at 11:09 a.m. Two students were wounded, one fatally (a female). The other student (a male) suffered a graze wound to the arm. The 17-year-old shot himself in the head and is deceased.
Subsequent updates identified the shooter as Solomon Henderson and the deceased victim as Josselin Corea Escalante.
The investigation continues
At the time of this writing, the police department is still investigating the matter. It is said to be "examining very concerning online writings and social media posts connected to 17-year-old Solomon Henderson."
Police investigators are trying to use this information to put together a motive for the shooting. No update about the potential motive has been released.
In its latest press release, the department also revealed that "A 17-year-old male student was grazed in the arm." The department adds, "He has been treated and released from Vanderbilt University Medical Center."
To complicate matters, the department states that "The investigation to this point has not established a connection between Henderson and the two shooting victims." It suggests that the victims may have been "struck by his random gunfire in the cafeteria."
Tennesse Gov. Bill Lee has put out a statement saying:
I've been briefed on the incident at Antioch High School and am grateful for law enforcement & first responders who responded quickly and continue to investigate. As we await more information, I join Tennesseans in praying for the victims, their families & the school community.
