Teenager Arrested in NY Murder That Killed Family, Including 5-Year-Old

A teenager has been arrested in connection with a New York family that included the murder of a five-year-old child and two others.

Jayden Rivera, 19, was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder, manslaughter and weapons charges.

"Police had previously called the son of one of the victims, 38-year-old Jonathan Rivera, a person of interest in the killings," ABC 7 reported.

"Detectives believe the teen was babysitting his 5-year-old half-brother Kayden Rivera Saturday night. They believe he went on the deadly rampage after his father and his father's girlfriend, 33-year-old Hanoi Peralta, returned home to their Mott Haven apartment," it added.

"According to reports Jayden Rivera, 19, was babysitting Kayden Rivera, on the night of the murders while his dad and Hanoi went out for a date night," Homicide NYC reported.

"Hanoi was discovered on a bed with 15 stab wounds to the back, seven to her chest, and four more to the face. The 5-year-old was stabbed eight times in the torso before being disemboweled. The father was stabbed once in the chest, slashed on the head, and had defensive wounds on his hands," it continued.

The tragic murders have rocked the family and community over the loss of the child and others in the situation.

Rivera reportedly returned to his family's home following the incident and claimed he "did something wrong" and was hearing voices.

His mother admitted him to the psychiatric hospital four hours before the bodies were found.

The loss of lives is made even more concerning by the mental health issues involved as those impacted mourn the deaths.
