Ted Cruz Says Dems Constitutional Obligation to Hold Mayorkas Impeachment Trial

Recently, the House passed the impeachment papers for Department of Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas.

Speaker Johnson (R-LA) had announced that he was delaying sending the papers to the Senate to give them more time to discuss the matter.

Even so, the fear on the right was that once Senator Schumer (D-N.Y.) put the impeachment on the floor, Democrats would dismiss the charges with a simple motion.

Cruz Speaks Out

There is a suspicion that Democrats will seek to dismiss all charges against Mayorkas rather than have him stand trial.

This has aggravated Republicans to no end after the Democrats impeached Trump not once but twice while Republicans controlled the Senate.

Republicans are now putting heat on Democrats to pressure them to hold the trial.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) recently commented on this, calling it their constitutional duty to hold the trial.

He stated, “There are times when the eyes of history are upon the United States Senate. This is one of those times.

“We are facing today an existential crisis at our southern border. It is qualitatively different than anything we have ever faced at our southern border in the history of our nation.”

Democrats have argued that Mayorkas has not committed any “high crimes and misdemeanors,” but Cruz says that is not true, citing the “misery and death” that has taken place with Mayorkas running the DHS.

Regarding the Dems not simply brushing this under the rug, he stated, “Well, fortunately, we have a document that tells us what to do. It's called the Constitution of the United States.

“Under the Constitution, it is the sole power of the House to impeach and the sole power and responsibility of the Senate to try."

Unfortunately, most mainstream media outlets do not take what the GOP has to say seriously and treat every word from Democrats as though it is gospel.

Johnson is supposed to transmit the documents to the Senate this week, so we will know soon enough if Schumer is going to hold the trial or simply have the charges dismissed and move on.
