Ted Cruz Confirms 2024 Senate Run

At this weekend's Republican Jewish Coalition annual leadership conference, another big campaign was announced.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) has announced that he will be running for office in 2024.

Donald Trump can calm down, however, as he will be running for the Senate, not the White House.

One or the Other

When Cruz was asked about his 2024 intentions, he stated, "I'm fighting in the Senate.

"I'm running for re-election in the Senate. I'm focused on the battles in the United States Senate."

When pressed about running again in 2024, he stated, "I'm focused on the fight. … There will be plenty of time to discuss 2024 presidential, they'll be plenty of time for that."

Cruz had stated before that he had no desire to run against Trump, but that may change now that Trump is no longer the darling of the GOP.

Cruz explained, "There are some people who want him to do that. There are some who don't.

"I think that process will shake out. We've seen at this conference here there some people clearly positioning to run against him.

"I don't think he'll run uncontested. I think there will be candidates that run against him.

"But we're very early in this process. There's plenty of time for the debates and discussions."

This would be a significant risk for Cruz, and I don't think it is one that he will be willing to take.

If he runs for president, he will not be able to run for the Senate, which means if he loses, he is out of politics.

Regardless of the temperature around Trump, I think Cruz sits with the Senate where he is all but guaranteed another six years in office.

The 2028 election will be here soon enough if Trump wins and loses, which would also give Cruz the solace of knowing he would still have his Senate seat if he lost.
