Suspected Serial Killer Arrested in Shooting Deaths of 3 in Los Angeles

A suspected serial killer was arrested for allegedly murdering three homeless men in Los Angeles, according to law enforcement.

The tragic incident led to the arrest of Jerrid Joseph Powell, 33, in the fatal shooting.

"Powell was arrested Wednesday for the burglary gone wrong and on Saturday, investigators connected him to the murders of the homeless individuals," the New York Post reported.

"The news comes just one day after city officials announced an urgent plea for unhoused people to be on high alert for a killer 'preying on the unhoused,'" it added.

"Police Chief Michel Moore said Saturday that police were able to match Powell's car, seen in security video from the killing Tuesday, to the car they had identified as being driven by the suspect believed to be responsible for killing the three homeless people," NBC News reported.

"A handgun found in that car also matched the weapon used in the killings of the three homeless people, police said," it continued.

The shooter reportedly shot the three men in separate attacks, with the shootings occurring on Wednesday.

The charges include the potential for life in prison with prosecutors expected to push for the maximum sentence in the case.

The deadly shootings have shaken the Los Angeles community, especially among those living on the streets, who now take some peace in knowing the likely shooter has been put behind bars. The shootings add to growing violence in the city that has led to much controversy for governing leaders in the city.
