Suspect in NC shooting spree entered country illegally: Report

A string of shooting incidents in the Charlotte, North Carolina area has been under police investigation, and new revelations suggest that the violence shares one key aspect with a host of other recent crimes in cities across the country.

As Fox News reports, an 18-year-old man who is now implicated in the shootings reportedly entered the United States illegally at the southern border.

Illegal suspected in deadly spree

According to the outlet, Carlos Roberto Diaz, together with a 16-year-old juvenile who has not been named, are now in police custody for their alleged connection to shootings in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area.

According to Police Chief Johnny Jennings, Diaz is implicated in “brazen crimes,” adding that the alleged offenses “put our community at risk and created a safety hazard for our community.”

The criminal counts now facing Diaz include a first-degree murder charge, two charges of shooting into an occupied vehicle, a charge of felony conspiracy to commit murder, five attempted murder charges, two counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling, and another count of assault with a deadly weapon intending to kill or cause serious injury.

Adding insult to injury, it appears that Diaz should never have been in the United States to begin with.

Sources indicated that the Honduran native had an encounter with Border Parol agents near the Rio Grande area back in 2019 when he was 14 years of age.

Violent spree comes to an end

As Queen City News reported, the pair's reign of terror included a deadly shooting that occurred in the early morning hours of July 9.

The alleged crime took place on Statesville Avenue in north Charlotte, and it marked the start of the dangerous criminal spree.

Killed in the initial shooting was 58-year-old Mustaffa Muhammad.

After taking the duo into custody, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police issued a statement saying, “These quick arrests are a testament to the dedication of our officers to our Charlotte communities. We understood the gravity of this situation and the fear our residents felt about this shooting series.”

Sadly, given President Joe Biden's apparent commitment to keeping the southern border open as long as he occupies the Oval Office, the scourge of criminal offenses committed by illegal migrants is all but certain to continue.
