Supreme Court rejects challenge to Tennessee law

Liberals in this country are about to pitch a fit.

On Monday, the Supreme Court declined to hear a case challenging a new law in Tennessee.

The law, while not mentioning drag shows, was clearly targeting them, and, at least for now, it will remain in place.

Sorry, George

The law presents restrictions on “adult-oriented performances” conducted in public or that may be seen by minors.

When it was challenged in the lower courts, the court ruled that the law was unconstitutional.

The state appealed the case, and the appeals court upheld the law, citing that the group that challenged the law, Friends of George, did not have standing to do so.

The group argued that the law would negatively impact them, as they produced “drag-centric performances, comedy sketches, and plays” that were conducted outside of age-restrictive venues.

To impact drag shows, the state legislature had amended the law to include “male or female impersonators.”

In its ruling, the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals noted that the law prohibits performances that lack value “for a reasonable 17-year-old.”

The group argued that clause unlawfully narrowed the scope of the legislation.

This law was the first of its kind, but there were other laws crafted in other red states mimicking the law.

There are also state legislators sitting on the sidelines to see how this played out before introducing their own laws.

Drag advocates have defended the shows as a form of self-expression, but conservatives have been pushing to have the shows restricted after sexually suggestive shows were conducted in the presence of children.

I saw this firsthand when I was living in Roanoke, TX, and the son of the owner of a local establishment put on a drag show that was open to the public, including children.

I walked by one of the performances, where a drag queen was dancing like a stripper, taking dollar bills from children who were all under the age of 12, and I could not believe their parents brought them to that fiasco.

I think we really need to ask why drag shows are so adamant that they want to perform what most of us would consider to be adult entertainment in front of young children.

Trump has referred to these shows as “anti-American propaganda,” pushing the narrative that the shows need to be banned.

I don’t really care what adults do, but there is simply no way these shows should be public and available to children. Quite frankly, it disgusts me that some people think it is okay to bring an 8-year-old child to these shows.

I am not sure what point they are trying to prove, but it sure does explain a lot about the next generation.
