Steve Harvey Death Report is AI Hoax
TV host and comedian Steve Harvey is one of the most popular personalities in entertainment today.
To that point, when a report showed up on Tuesday night that Harvey had passed, the internet had a meltdown.
That story, fortunately, turned out to be a fake AI-generated story.
Not True
Harvey, 67, seems to be everywhere you turn these days.
He hosts “Family Feud” as well as having a daytime show on ABC called “Judge Steve Harvey.”
It also seems that just about every time you open your phone, he is either in a meme or a reel.
He has starred in “Think Like a Man,” “Madea Goes to Jail,” and “You Got Served,” just to name a few.
Needless to say, he has an army of loyal fans who were heartbroken to hear of his alleged passing.
Well, it turns out that his death was only alleged, as Harvey is alive and well, and he has been posting regularly on his social media accounts for anyone who doubts it.
The story got started when a news-sharing website, Newsbreak, featured an article called “Steve Harvey Passed Away Today: Remembering The Legacy Of A Comedy Legend.”
Newsbreak has gotten itself into hot water in the past for posting AI stories as fact, only later to be debunked, which is what happened here as well.
The post created so much of a buzz that searches for Harvey’s death were trending at #2 on Google searches.
This just goes to show how dangerous AI reporting can be, especially if the editors are not doing fact-checks on the reports.
I am a fan of AI, but only to an extent. I think it is amazing for research, and while I have seen some programs that work well for writing, I still prefer humans tapping keys on their computers to generate my news.
Of course, this is also how I make my living, so I am a little biased on that front.
