The stack of despicable crimes committed by politicians just got a bit higher.
The latest being former North Dakota State Senator, Ray Holmberg, 79, one of the nation’s longest-serving state senators.
Holmberg is facing charges for having traveled to Europe with the intent of having paid sex with a minor as well as receipt of child pornography.
I will never understand what makes these people tick, especially high-profile individuals that you would think would know better and that there is a far better chance of being caught than in getting away with this sickness.
According to the report, Holmberg “traveled from North Dakota to Prague, Czech Republic, from June 2011 through November 2016 for the purpose of engaging in commercial sex acts with a minor.”
Holmberg also reportedly received content of a minor engaging in sexual activity between November 2012 and March 2013.
Mark Friese, attorney for Holmberg, appeared to try to downplay the charges stating that his client was investigated “for 2 years or more and allege nothing recent. The conduct they allege is from more than a decade ago.”
My answer… so what? Does it really matter how long ago the crime was committed when we are discussing children?
Holmberg has a trial date set for December 5, 2023. If he is convicted, he can be sentenced to as much as 50 years in prison.
Holmberg was in office for more than four decades when he resigned in April 2022.
That resignation came after a report surfaced that he had been exchanging texts with Nicholas James Morgan-Derosier, a landscaper, who had been arrested on charges of possessing child porn.
One more kick in the gut for taxpayers and donors… Holmberg received $126,000 in reimbursements for travel for 70 out-of-state trips beginning in 2013, which included several European countries.
So, it would appear that either the state or donors paid for his little jaunts with children.
