Squad Member Tlaib Calls For Democrats to Vote Against Biden in Michigan

In a public statement, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, a member of the progressive group known as the 'Squad', urged fellow progressives in Michigan to vote against President Biden in the upcoming Democratic primary.

She voiced her dissatisfaction with Biden's support for Israel's conflict with Hamas.

"We feel completely neglected and unseen by our government right now. If you want us to be louder, then come here and vote uncommitted," she stated in a video shared by the "Listen to Michigan" campaign.

The campaign, led by Tlaib's sister Layla Elabed, advocates for Democrats to vote uncommitted in Michigan's upcoming Feb. 27 primary.

Tlaib, the only Palestinian American in Congress and one of two Muslim women serving, has frequently clashed with Biden and many Democrats over the Israel-Palestine conflict.

"It is important...to create a voting block...to say enough is enough. We don’t want a country that supports wars and bombs," she emphasized.

Tlaib's strong support for Palestinians has often drawn criticism. Last November, the House of Representatives censured her for remarks about Israel.

Biden has publicly backed Israel in its conflict with Hamas since the Oct. 7, 2023 attack. However, this stance has divided Democrats, with many progressives expressing sympathy for Palestinians.

"I am of the view that the conduct of the response in the Gaza Strip has been over the top," Biden remarked in a recent press conference.

The president, aged 81, has engaged with Muslim and Arab American leaders in efforts to mend relations since the conflict's onset. In Michigan, top administration officials met with Arab American and Muslim leaders earlier this month.

Michigan, boasting the largest Arab population in the U.S. at 2.1% of its demographics, is considered a crucial battleground state in general elections. During the New Hampshire primary, which was not officially recognized by the Democratic National Committee, some activists sought to protest against Biden by writing in "ceasefire".
