Squad Member Ilhan Omar to Face Primary Challenger

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) now faces a primary challenger after ongoing remarks against Israel.

Minneapolis City Council member Don Samuels announced Sunday that he will run against Omar for a second time.

“'Our congresswoman has a predilection to divisiveness and conflict,' Samuels said in an interview with The Associated Press ahead of his official announcement Sunday morning on WCCO Radio," the New York Post reported.

"The Jamaican-born Samuels still maintains that his narrow primary loss in 2022 showed Omar was beatable, and that he could have won if they had competed later in the general election, where Omar won 74% of the vote over a little-known Republican," it added.

"The long tails of the George Floyd and COVID issues continue, with empty storefronts and empty strip malls because people don't want to invest anymore. They don't think it's safe," Samuels said, according to Newsmax.

"The war in the Middle East has already divided Democrats and upended the dynamics of some House primaries. Omar has been critical of Hamas for attacking Israel and taking hostages — but even more of Israel's military response," it continued.

Omar and other Squad members continue to face new challengers, including from their own party, following remarks over the Israel-Hamas war.

While most Democrats have sided with Israel following the terror attacks that killed over 1,400 people, a few House members, mostly those labeled the Squad, have spoken out against the support.

The criticisms even led to a recent censure for Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) in a rare move that saw some Democrats join the censure with Republicans.

Omar's days may be numbered but only if her district's voters step up to do something about it.
