Speaker Johnson Says Gaetz Will Reform DOJ
When Donald Trump announced Matt Gaetz as his Attorney General pick, he set the internet on fire.
Gaetz has always been controversial, but he also has a lot of baggage and is not well-liked among Republicans in Congress.
Even so, Speaker Johnson (R-LA) seems to be supporting the pick, but many on the right, including myself, do not believe that Gaetz will ever be approved by the Senate.
Firebrand Pick
Johnson has claimed that Trump’s nominees are disruptors by choice, with Gaetz being atop that list.
He seems to support the pick as well as keeping the ethics committee investigation report about Gaetz sealed now that he has resigned his seat…
.@SpeakerJohnson: Matt Gaetz will go in and reform the Department of Justice. We've seen the lawfare at the DOJ — how they target Catholics, parents at school board meetings, pro-life Americans — and Gaetz will shake it up. pic.twitter.com/ACk8Go2DnA

This surely will not be popular with our MAGA readers, but I don’t think Gaetz will be approved, nor do I want to see him approved.
I also happen to believe that the Senate committee vetting Gaetz needs to be able to see that report.
First, regarding the ethics complaint, Gaetz has been accused of having sex with an underage girl and sex trafficking.
If the allegations are true, does it really benefit Republicans having that report buried only for these allegations to resurface after he is in office? Simply put, we don’t need another scandal.
Second, I would say it is a major stretch to even think that Gaetz is qualified to run the DOJ, and there are far better options for Trump, with Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) or former Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) immediately coming to mind.
Third, there is the fact that Republican Senators are already pushing back on this nomination, and I have to believe that Trump knew this would happen.
Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), who was up for leadership, stated, “We need to have a complete vetting of the nominees, not only so we know that the nominee is qualified, but also to protect the president.”
Senator Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) added that Gaetz has a steep hill to climb. When asked if the thought there would be enough senators voting against Gaetz to block the pick, Cramer stated, “I would guess if we had a vote today on the Senate floor, it might be more than that.
“I have concerns that he can’t get across the finish line, and we’re gonna spend a lot of political capital … on something that even if they got it done, you’d have to wonder if it was worth it.”
To me, Gaetz is someone far more interested in likes and shares on his social media accounts that being a serious legislator, and his record backs that up.
Trump can do better, and he needs to if he wants this administration to be taken seriously.
