Speaker Johnson Reveals Near Death of Sons

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is a very private man, especially when it comes to his family.

Even so, it was a bit of a shock to learn that last year, his two sons almost died.

The incident took place after Johnson had traveled to Florida for a donor event as well as a meeting with Donald Trump.

Close Call

The news came about via a profile piece on Johnson in The Atlantic.

The day before Johnson’s event, he had met with Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago.

The following day, he was at a local hotel talking to donors when his security team interrupted and rushed him out of the room.

This was because one of his sons had been swept out to sea by the riptide, and his other son went to try to help him.

Thankfully, a parasailer saw them struggling and got the attention of lifeguards, who saved the boys with jet skis.

When Johnson arrived, the boys were being treated on the beach, eventually going to the hospital for more treatment and observation.

Johnson explained, “President Trump heard about it somehow—miraculously, this never made the news.

“He was just so moved by the idea that we almost lost them, and we talked about it at great length. And we talked about the faith aspect of that because he knows that I believe that, you know—that God spared the lives of my sons.”

When Johnson was contacted about the near drowning, as we would expect, he only confirmed the details given and refused to comment any further.

Even though Johnson has been hammered by the MAGA contingent of the House, Donald Trump has defended him, recently stating, “Look, we have a majority of one, OK? It’s not like he can go and do whatever he wants to do.

“I think he’s a very good person. I think he’s trying very hard.”

I also happen to think Johnson is a good person, but that does not necessarily mean he is a good Speaker.

My opinion… we keep our heads down in hopes of expanding the majority, then replace him next session with someone more effective.

Who that person is, that can get all the factions of the House one page, well, that answer I still don’t have.
