Speaker Johnson Addresses Possible Garland Impeachment

With the assassination attempt of Donald Trump, all of a sudden, people are thinking all those “conspiracy” theories tossed out by the GOP are not so outrageous.

Case in point, the allegations of the weaponization of the DOJ against Trump by Joe Biden and Merrick Garland.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) recently discussed the possible impeachment of Garland, as well as a few other key issues.

To Impeach or Not to Impeach

The sad reality of an impeachment of Garland is that it would likely meet the same fate as the impeachment of Mayorkas with Democrats still holding the majority in the Senate.

Johnson knows this, so he is being very careful about his allegations against Garland, stating that he is not yet sure if Garland’s actions have gone to the level of deserving to be impeached.

He stated, “Merrick Garland has been held in contempt, we filed a lawsuit against him in federal court to enforce the subpoena. He’s made a mess of the Department of Justice, they’ve weaponized the whole legal system in the minds of many American people and this is a very dangerous thing.

“So is he guilty of treason, high crimes, and misdemeanors? I’m not sure, that’s a high burden.

“I don’t know, legally, politically, right now if impeachment is the right step.”

Johnson also addressed whether he would try to remain Speaker if the GOP holds the House, which seemed unlikely up until the debate and attempted assassination of Trump.

Johson explained, “People ask me all the time are you having fun as speaker — I mean, I’m a wartime speaker, in a real sense.

“With a larger majority and with unified government, I also believe it could be a time of unifying the country and it’s an exciting prospect to be a part of that movement, so that’s the motivation to keep going on this. It’s not an easy job.”

If Johnson is going to hold that gavel, he has a lot of work to do to convince members that he can deliver on the promises made when he was voted in.

While I have not necessarily been happy with Johnson, I am glad the talk of removing him from office has died down because it was crushing any hope the GOP had of keeping the House.

With that talk now muted and recent events, for the first time during this election cycle, I am very hopeful that we will hold the House while taking back the Senete and White House.
