One of the most powerful politicos in Georgia is dead.
David Ralston, the Georgie Speaker of the House, has passed away.
Ralston was 68 years old.
Ralston only weeks ago announced that he would be stepping down from his position due to health concerns.
He was, however, hoping to continue to serve in the House.
Sadly, on Wednesday, those health concerns took their toll.
Democrat Calvin Smyre stated, “A great pine tree has fallen in the Georgia House of Representatives.”
Republican Gov. Brian Kemp ordered flags flown at half-staff until Rolston’s funeral.
He also stated, “Our state lost one of its true giants.”
House Speaker Pro Tem Jan Jones stated, “David Ralston spent his career in public service trying to lift others up and move our state forward.
“He knew the awesome power of bringing people together — reasoning together — and finding common ground. Regardless of political ideology, he treated everyone with respect and was a model of civility.”
It is an amazing testament to the man that he was just as loved on the right as he was on the left in this polarizing political climate.
Rest in peace, sir, and thank you for your service.
