South Korean President Betrayed by Cabinet
South Korea is in complete and utter chaos right now with a battle between the sitting president, his cabinet, and the opposition.
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol went rogue this week, declaring martial law, sparking massive backlash.
After the president issued the order, his cabinet issued a reversal, sparking an internal war for power in the country.
A Hot Mess
Yoon issued the order, claiming he was being illegally blocked by the opposition in parliament, claiming they were being influenced by North Korea.
He stated, “To safeguard a liberal South Korea from the threats posed by North Korea’s communist forces and to eliminate anti-state elements… I hereby declare emergency martial law.”
When his order was issued, it started to cause worldwide panic due to the instability in the region this could case.
Opposition leaders immediately started to call for his resignation, and that cry has not died down even with his cabinet reversing his order.
The opposition is now threatening impeachment if Yoon does not immediately step down.
The Democrat Party stated, “We will not sit idly by and watch President Yoon’s crime of destroying the Constitution and trampling on democracy.
“President Yoon should immediately resign voluntarily.” While the leader of Yoon’s ruling People’s Power Party, Han Dong-hoon, apologized to the public in a statement to reporters Wednesday morning and called for the country’s defense minister to be fired.”
Han Dong-hoon, the leader of Yoon’s ruling People’s Power Party, added, “The president must directly and thoroughly explain this tragic situation.
“The minister of defense, who recommended this martial law, should be immediately dismissed, and all those responsible must be held strictly accountable.”
The White House has been shockingly quiet on the matter, only saying that it was concerned and monitoring the situation.
As of this report, Biden had not yet made a formal statement on the matter.
