Smith Requesting New Gag Order Against Trump

Another Trump case, and yet another gag order request.

The moment Donald Trump started talking about the FBI being “locked and loaded,” you just knew this was going to happen.

And it did, with Special Counsel Jack Smith requesting the court issue a gag order after hearing Trump’s comments.

Overly Dramatic

Last week, a report surfaced that the use of deadly force had been authorized during the raid at Mar-a-Lago.

Now, even I was critical of the order because of the nature of the raid, citing the fact that had Trump been there, things could have gone sideways rather quickly if someone got a little itchy.

Trump was not at Mar-a-Lago, however, when the raid took place, but that did not stop Trump and his surrogates from being overly dramatic about the raid.

Trump posted on Truth Social about it as well as sending out a fundraising email, claiming that Biden was “locked & loaded and ready to take me out.”

On top of this, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) claimed, “The Biden DOJ and FBI were planning to assassinate Pres Trump and gave the green light.”

So, now Smith is hoping to get another gag order, submitting a filing that, in part, stated, “Whether a particular statement meets that test ‘must be determined by reference to the statement’s full context.’

“But that condition would clearly prohibit further statements deceptively claiming that the agents involved in the execution of the search warrant were engaged in an effort to kill him, his family, or Secret Service agents.”

Prosecutors further argued, “The Government’s request is necessary because of several intentionally false and inflammatory statements recently made by Trump that distort the circumstances under which the Federal Bureau of Investigation planned and executed the search warrant at Mar-a-Lago.

“Those statements create a grossly misleading impression about the intentions and conduct of federal law enforcement agents — falsely suggesting that they were complicit in a plot to assassinate him — and expose those agents, some of whom will be witnesses at trial, to the risk of threats, violence, and harassment.”

Of all Trump’s judges, Judge Cannot, whom Trump appointed to the bench, has been the friendliest, but don’t be surprised if she allows this gag order to be implemented here.

Having said that, I still don’t expect this case to ever see the inside of a courtroom due to all the pending motions that have to be settled before a trial date can be set.
