Sidney Powell Wins Appeal in Texas Regarding Proposed Disciplinary Measures

There is finally some good news for the Trump camp in terms of the wake of destruction left behind Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.

Attorney Sidney Powell, who took a plea deal in the Georgia RICO case, finally got a break in court.

A Texas appellate court ruled in her favor regarding a disciplinary action she faced for her role in trying to fight the outcome of the election.

Catching a Break

Multiple attorneys who were trying to help Trump have already faced discipline, up to and including disbarment.

Powell is the exception to the rule on this front, at least so far.

Powell was facing discipline from the Texas Bar’s Commission for Lawyer Discipline.

The Texas Bar’s Commission for Lawyer Discipline claimed that Powell had engaged in “dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation” while challenging the results of the 2020 election.

In its ruling, the appellate court stated, “We are troubled by the Bar’s implicit suggestion that application of the ordinary meaning of the term dishonesty means the [disciplinary rule] encompasses imprecise pleadings and carelessly filed exhibits.

“Regardless of whether the challenged conduct must be knowing, intentional, or otherwise, a question we need not resolve here, it is axiomatic that dishonesty involves some conscious perversion of truth.”

Powell is not quite out of the woods yet on this, however.

The Bar can still appeal this ruling to the State Supreme Court, and she still faces federal sanctions for filing “frivolous” lawsuits to fight the election's outcome.

The aftermath of the effort to fight the 2020 election results has been disastrous for Trump allies past and present.

We have seen several attorneys face disciplinary measures, at least one disbarment, as well as allies Rudy Giuliani and My Pillow Guy Mike Lindell facing bankruptcy.

That, of course, does not even begin to address the legal problems that Donald Trump now faces from his 2020 efforts, which could crush his hopes of winning the presidency if he is found guilty in any of these federal cases brought against him.
