Well, this is something that I never thought I would see… a Republican sticking up for Biden while a prominent Democrat rips the old man.
House Foreign Affairs Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) and Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) were both asked this weekend on the Sunday morning media circuit about Biden’s sending cluster bombs to Ukraine, reports The Hill.
The response was the exact opposite of what I would have expected.
Reversal
Cluster bombs are one of the least reliable weapons we have in our arsenal.
They are notorious for not detonating and causing problems well after the fact. For this reason, many human rights organizations have been trying to make them illegal for years.
In fact, most nations have already signed an agreement to outlaw and destroy these munitions, but the United States (nor Ukraine, for that matter) are signatories to that agreement.
After Biden agreed to send the munitions to Ukraine, McCaul expressed his support, stating, “All the Ukrainians and (President Volodymyr) Zelensky are asking for is to give them the same weapons the Russians have to use in their own country against Russians who are in their own country. They do not want these to be used in Russia,” reports CNN.
Honestly, that is even worse to me, as it could be innocent Ukrainians that pay the price in the future for weapons that did not detonate during the conflict.
Let one of these bombs go off in a residential area, with innocent children being harmed, and see how long it takes to put Biden before the Hague.
Rep. Lee was far more hesitant about the aid, stating, “They don’t always immediately explode. Children can step on them. The president’s been doing a good job managing this war, this Putin aggressive war against Ukraine. But I think that this should not happen.”
This is a disaster waiting to happen and civil rights groups are literally waiting to pounce the moment an innocent is killed with these weapons.
Imagine that… an American president charged with war crimes.
