Senator Schmitt Not Interested in AG Position
Ever since Trump was elected, we have seen a lot of people jockeying for position to become a part of this administration.
Now we are seeing quite a few people get out of the way.
First, the favorite for Secretary of the Treasury bowed out, and not Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO), a former state attorney general, has stated that he was withdrawing from consideration for the Attorney General position in Trump’s administration.
No Thanks
Schmitt was a ferocious AG, so the fact his name was on the list as a potential AG for Trump was not a surprise.
I believe that Schmitt, along with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, and Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) were probably atop the list, and I would support any of them as AG.
My preference would actually be Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, but I don’t see any way that she leaves Governor DeSantis, nor do I believe Trump would offer it to her solely because she is in Florida with DeSantis.
I believe if Cruz were asked, he would probably turn it down because he likes having that forever seat in the Senate.
Paxton is a wild card because he clearly still has business in Texas, but he would be relentless as Trump’s AG.
What we do know is that it will not be Schmidt, who stated, “I ran for the U.S. Senate to represent the people of the Show Me State, and I’m just getting started. ... We need America First fighters who don’t just say they support the agenda but who are willing to stand in the breach and actually fight for it and for the hopes and dreams of the American people.”
Whoever takes this position, will, by far, have as much scrutiny on them as Trump will have once he moves back into the White House.
This will especially be true if Smith decides not to drop the charges against Trump.
**Reports broke today that Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) will be nominated by Trump as his AG.**
