Senator Ernst Says She is Not a ‘Yes’ for Hegseth
Donald Trump really shook the tree when he nominated Fox News personality and Army veteran Pete Hegseth as his Defense Secretary.
As soon as the nomination was made, former sexual abuse allegations against Hegseth came back to the forefront.
Since then, there have been other derogatory reports, and at least one GOP Senator says she cannot agree to approve Hegseth for the post.
Not Happening
The initial allegations against Hegseth had been investigated by local authorities, and they were found to have no merit.
Hurting Hegseth, however, is the fact that he paid the woman off.
Now, reports are surfacing regarding workplace issues and drinking issues of Hegseth’s that appear to be a pattern.
As I stated in another report, he is coming off as either a stone-cold alcoholic or someone who still likes to party like a frat boy.
To that point, I have my own reservations about Hegseth, as I don’t want someone like that running our Defense Department.
Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) seems to have the same concerns, and when asked if she is pushing back against Hegseth, she confirmed that was the case.
She stated, “I think you are right. I think for a number of our senators, they wanna make sure that any allegations have been cleared, and that’s why we have to have a very thorough vetting process.”
Senator Jim Banks (R-IN) is among those who believe Hegseth can get the job done, stating, “Pete Hegseth is a decorated veteran and a patriot who will always put America first.
“Pete is focused on what I’m focused on which is getting wokeness out of the military and making our Department of Defense lethal again. And Pete Hegseth won’t back down. He won’t back down from the media, or from the bureaucracy and he won’t back down from China, Iran or Russia.
“He’s going to make America strong again and our enemies fear us again.”
This pushback is not really anything as to what Banks is suggesting. This is about someone who appears to regularly get blackout drunk running our Department of Defense.
Since the reports are all I have to go on, there is no way I can get behind this nomination.
I would love the opportunity to sit down face-to-face with Hegseth to discuss these issues, but we all know that is not going to happen. So, we all have to rely on the common sense of our elected officials and hope they make the right decision.
I just hope they don’t push him through out of loyalty to Trump without truly vetting Hegseth, as there are clearly issues here that need to be discussed in detail before he gets the keys to the Pentagon.
If the Hegseth nomination fails, the rumors are that Trump has discussed the position with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Unlike Hegseth, I believe DeSantis would sail right through the nomination process.
