In the state of South Carolina, state Senator John Scott was about as high on the totem poll as one could be.
He had been serving in the state legislature for almost half his life.
Sadly, he passed away this week at the age of 69, reported AP News.
Dedicated His Life
I always measure the success of a politician by how both sides react to their death.
We have seen Democrats in Congress (and Republicans) pass and nary a complimentary word would be said by the opposing side.
That was far from the case when Scott passed.
One of the first people to pay tribute was Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.)…
Saddened to hear of the passing of SC State Senator John Scott. I pray for his family and friends and hope they feel God’s comforting grace during this difficult time. https://t.co/zeDRT2vHMG

Republican Governor Henry McMaster also issued a statement: "Peggy and I extend our prayers and deepest condolences to the family and friends of Senator John Scott. With over 30 years of service in the General Assembly, he has had a profound impact on Richland County and all of South Carolina. He will be deeply missed. May God bless him and his family."
Scott's family announced his death, reported the Washington Examiner.
The family stated, "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, son, and brother, Senator John L Scott. Jr., who passed away peaceably while surrounded by family and close friends. We ask the community to keep his family in prayer."
Scott started his career in the House in 1990, then moved over to the State Senate in 2008.
During his time in office, he served on the Senate's Banking and Insurance Committee, Education Committee, Finance Committee, Labor, Commerce, and Industry Committee, and the Legislative Oversight and Medical Affairs Committee.
The cause of death has still not been reported, but there were earlier reports that Scott had been having issues with blood clots.
