Senate Hearing Gets Confrontational Over Subpoena to Conservative Activist

A bit of a verbal scuffle broke out during the Senate Judiciary Committee this week between Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Dick Durbin (D-IL).

Cornyn blasted Durbin for issuing subpoenas to Harlan Crow, the Republican donor tied to Justice Clarence Thomas, and conservative judicial activist Leonard Leo.

Cornyn accused Durbin of destroying “one of the most important committees” in the Senate.

You Ruined It All

Democrats are clearly not going to stop their efforts to remove Justice Clarence Thomas from the Supreme Court.

This continued this week with Durbin issuing the subpoenas mentioned above.

Cornyn went off, stating, "Mr. Chairman, you just destroyed one of the most important committees in the United States Senate.

"And you set a precedent, which will be repeated every time one party or the other takes advantage and takes the low road. It sets a precedent that will then become the norm.

"Congratulations on destroying the United States Senate Judiciary Committee.”

It would appear that Durbin is going to have to Leo drug into the committee hearing in cuffs because he told Fox News that he has no intention of cooperating with Democrats.

Leo stated, "Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats have been destroying the Supreme Court; now they are destroying the Senate.

"I will not cooperate with this unlawful campaign of political retribution."

The hypocrisy runs deep in this effort to have Thomas removed simply because he didn’t do anything other justices have not done, including the late Justice Ginsburg and the now-retired Justice Stephen Breyer.

They are trying to convict Thomas on a code of ethics that does not exist for the Supreme Court while ignoring trips and comps given to liberal members of the bench.

This is what Democrats do to people of color who dare to walk on the conservative side of the aisle.
