Senate Democrats Target Clarence Thomas in Fundraising Messages

At least four Democratic senators have sent recent fundraising emails attacking Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

The messages were from Sens. Dick Durbin (IL), Chris Murphy (CT), Mazie Hirono (HI) and Sheldon Whitehouse (RI), according to a Fox News report.

"You've got creepy right-wing billionaires, phony front groups, justices amenable to overtures, large sums of money, and secrecy," Whitehouse said in his email.

"And in recent months we've had a front row seat, thanks to Justice Thomas, to see how these ingredients mix to tarnish the judicial branch," he added.

11 Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee also signed a letter last month asking Chief Justice John Roberts to investigate Thomas.

"Now the court faces a crisis of public confidence in its ethical standards that must be addressed," the Democrat senators' letter to Roberts says.

"In the coming days, the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing regarding the need to restore confidence in the Supreme Court's ethical standards. And if the court does not resolve this issue on its own, the committee will consider legislation to resolve it," it added.

In contrast with the attacks from the left, former Vice President Mike Pence recently spoke out on behalf of Thomas.

"Clarence Thomas is a man of integrity with an inspiring personal story and has upheld the ideals enshrined in our Constitution throughout his life without compromise," Pence tweeted.

The latest attacks show that Democrats are not only out to win the White House and Congress but want power in the Supreme Court as well. With conservatives holding the majority, some on the left are taking extreme measures to discredit justices in an effort to add new ones while Biden is in office.
