Senate Democrats Push Legislation to Abolish Electoral College

The days of Democrats holding the gavel in the Senate are just about over.

That being the case, they are making one last push to ram through legislation that would end the Electoral College.

Dems believe that since two recent elections resulted in a candidate winning that did not win the popular vote, the EC is antiquated and should be abolished.

Not Happening

The effort is being led by Sens. Brian Schatz (D-HI), Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Peter Welch (D-VT).

They are saying their legislation would help “restore democracy,” slamming the Electoral College as outdated and no longer necessary.

Schatz stated, “In an election, the person who gets the most votes should win. It’s that simple.

“No one’s vote should count for more based on where they live. The Electoral College is outdated and it’s undemocratic. It’s time to end it.”

Durbin added, “In 2000, before the general election, I introduced a bipartisan resolution to amend the Constitution and abolish the electoral college. I still believe today that it’s time to retire this 18th century invention.”

So, let’s be clear here… if Democrats had won the two elections where the electoral vote was different from the popular vote, this would never even be on the table.

Second, the entire reason the EC was established was to ensure that every state had a vote and that no one or two population-rich states would dictate the outcome of the election.

As I have stated before, if you remove the Electoral College, you might as well send New York, California, Texas, and Florida to the polls and call it a day because those states would pretty much dictate the outcome of the race.

Collectively, those four states are about a third of the country’s entire population, so what would be the point of the rest of the country voting?

Democrats don’t like it because they don’t feel like it gives them an edge, so they want it abolished, especially with all those future voters Biden just let across the border.

I have said this before, but I am amazed at the genius of our Founders, specifically on this issue.

How these men saw problems so far into the future is beyond me, but they got it right more often than not.

The Electoral College is a foundation of this country, and it must remain in place.
