Secret Service Responds to Trump Protection Scrutiny
We are finally starting to see the fallout of the failed assassination attempts against Donald Trump.
The fact that Trump is alive is in spite of the Secret Service, not because of them (save the sniper team).
After a blistering report outlining the failures of the agency, Acting Director Ronald Rowe Jr. responded.
Doing What We Can
What I heard from Rowe are nothing but excuses.
For example, when he was asked about the agents' performance, he stated, “We are redlining our people. We are asking them to do extraordinary things right now.”
He then added that the agency will use the report to get better.
Rowe stated, “We’ll continue to work with the department to look at those recommendations that are actionable and feasible to make changes in the Secret Service.
“But we have not been sitting back waiting for reports like this to come out.”
The agency is reportedly significantly understaffed right now, and it also seems clear that training needs to be improved.
To me, the two worst failures that day were allowing Trump to go on stage with a credible threat on the grounds and the horrific cover and transport move that regularly left Trump open for another shot.
That does not even account for the fact that if they were going to let Trump go on, the suspect, who had been spotted by agents hours earlier, should have been apprehended.
Had agents followed basic protocols that day, an innocent man would still be alive, and Trump and the other two victims never would have been shot.
It really is nothing but freak timing that Trump is still alive today, having only turned his head a second before the bullet went flying.
Had he still been looking out at the crowd when the trigger was pulled, Donald would not be here today.
